History

The origins of Fager Amsler Keller & Schoppmann, LLP, began when Donald J. Fager, presently Of Counsel to the firm, a prominent trial attorney formerly of Martin Clearwater & Bell, founded a firm with the goal of providing exceptional legal services to the healthcare providers of New York State.

In 1984, Edward J. Amsler, Esq., a seasoned trial attorney with decades of experience representing healthcare providers, joined Mr. Fager to form Fager & Amsler.

Over the next two decades, Fager & Amsler continued to expand and diversify. In order to meet the ever-changing needs of the healthcare community, attorneys with experience in a wide array of skills were selectively added to the firm.

In 2013, Jay Keller, Esq., became a partner after nearly 30 years of providing counsel to healthcare providers. The firm then became known as Fager Amsler & Keller. Over the next few years, challenges in the medical-legal community placed new demands on the firm. In order to meet those demands, nationally recognized attorney Michael J. Schoppmann, Esq., joined the firm. Mr. Schoppmann brought 30 years of experience representing and educating physicians, dentists, institutions, and other healthcare providers across a wide range of professional liability matters and educational topics.

While the firm, now known as FAKS, has evolved and developed over time to meet the ever-changing demands of our healthcare clientele, our goal of providing exceptional professional services to the healthcare providers of New York State has remained constant.
